Two-step verification
A code from your phone after your password, so a stolen password isn’t enough
Turning it on
Open Account → Security → Two-step verification and choose Turn on. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or your password manager, and enter the six-digit code it shows. Your other devices are signed out.
From then on, signing in with your password or Google also asks for a code from the app. Signing in with a passkey asks for nothing more.
Recovery codes
When you turn it on you get ten recovery codes. Keep them somewhere safe, such as your password manager. Each one signs you in once if you can’t use your phone. Create new codes under Account → Security whenever you’re running low; the old ones stop working.
Turning it off
Choose Turn off and enter a code from the app or a recovery code. Organizations that require two-step verification close to you until you turn it on again.
